The Yorkshire Terrier puppy is an active one, which is loyal to his family, smart, and is very loving. He will bark at strangers and may be a tad aggressive to newcomers whether they are human or animal. Due to their protective nature, they are better with older children in the home.

Living Environment for your Yorkshire Terrier Puppy

Apartment life is fine for the Yorkshire Terrier puppy as long as he receives his daily walk. He does not need a yard, but will still enjoy playing with the family indoors or outdoors. If you take him out during the cold weather, it should be for a short time, as he cannot handle the cold.

The Yorkshire Terrier is pretty stubborn when it comes to training. You must be strict, consistent, and of course gentle at the same time. You must not allow the Yorkie to believe he is in control as he can become very jealous of others and you may have a grandchild snapped if not trained while young.

Grooming your Yorkshire Terrier puppy

The Yorkshire Terrier puppy will need his long coat brushed daily. If you do decide to clip his hair it will still need brushed weekly. As well as taking hair of their coat, their teeth will need to be cleaned by your vet on a regular basis, as they are prone to teeth problems.

Diet: The Yorkshire Terrier puppy should be fed a puppy formula four small meals per day until they reach about 6 months of age. At this age, until they are one year old you can decrease the meals to twice per day. After one year old, you can feed them once per day. Remember, to feed them high quality nutritious dog food.
