The Chow Chow may look a bit ferrocious; however, he is a gentle natured dog that is great with children. He can be a bit self-willed and even a bit obstinate; however, they are very loyal to their family having usually choosing one person over the rest of the family. He likes to be in control and will be dominant with others in the family if not trained properly.

Living Environment for your Chow Chow Puppy

The Chow Chow puppy does not mind living in an apartment as long as he can go for a walk every day. He can stay indoors or even stay outdoors with a small yard; however, he does not do well with hot temperatures. The Chow Chow is sensitive to heat and should be indoors under the air-conditioning when temperatures are high.

The Chow Chow puppy is very smart and can be trained. They are a bit stubborn due to their history of mistreatment, which can be seen at times during training. You can begin training at an early age to do all kinds of tricks and they will enjoy every minute.

The Chow Chow puppy has a long coat that will need to be brushed daily in order to keep it looking its best. Your new puppy is a heavy shedder and you will need to watch his undercoat during the times he is shedding. It is best to only use dry shampoo when needed.

The Chow Chow puppy should be fed dry dog food and if possible allow him to nibble at his food when he desires leaving it down all the time instead of serving him meals. The dog food should be soaked in water until it completely expands. It will expand in the puppy’s tummy if not which can lead to obesity.

The Chow Chow can become a lazy puppy, which will lead to a lazy dog possibly with obesity problems. He should at least go for a long walk every day.
