Tammy begins her story by saying: ‘I thought it would be easy to quit smoking… if I wanted it bad enough’. Unfortunately, quitting smoking is not hat easy, and Tammy knows it better than anyone. After her husband managed to quit smoking in 2001, Tammy was still sneaking around the house for a smoke. She didn’t have the strength to take control of her life, and that was consuming her health day by day.
Contemplating the idea of quitting smoking, Tammy had no idea that life was preparing some harsh times for her, some eye-opening situations. After her daughter passed away just before she turned 24, Tammy’s will broke down and she started smoking 2 packs a day; her husband was also overwhelmed and got back to the cigars as well. It was just another good excuse for smoking…
In December 2002, a good family friend died of cancer, and the coincidence made that he smoked as much as Tammy did. That really made her question her lifestyle. She tried to cut down the number of packs per day and got to 7 cigars a day. The need to smoke was so high that she never had the strength to quit completely, it was just too hard. Then she found a forum where people trying to quit smoking encouraged each other, knowing how hard was to quit on their own and having no one to talk with.
Slowly, the depression disappeared, and Tammy’s body was ready physically and mentally for a drastic change. It’s almost two years since Tammy quit smoking, and she loves the freedom that she has achieved.
