Where?

Lots of places. There are placement / employment agencies that require part time or short term project workers that hire freelancers. Find these in your yellow pages, make phone calls and mail them or email them a cover letter and your resume and specify the type of work you are willing to take on, as well as your rates.

The Internet is BOOMING with freelance sites where buyers of all kinds of service, programming and writing, for example, where buyers post bid requests at either closed or open auction and sellers (coders and writers) write bids of proposal and state a price they would charge. Negotiations can go back and forth and if you are good and lucky, work will soon fall your way.

Get used to rejection. One site that this writer uses is www.Rentacoder.com, and the average bid there gets 12.4 offers within 24 hours. If everything were equal, that means the average freelancer would win about 8 % of his or her bids. That’s a LOT of rejection. Some buyers will go for the lowest bid only, others look at your work history and rating, some are impressed at the eloquence of your bid proposal and or enthusiasm for the job. Each one is different.

This writer and computer programmer wins 19 % of his bids, which is above average I would think. I attribute my success to the fact that I AM a writer and have a few secret techniques that I use to sell myself.

However, its not just sites designed as a marketplace of buyers and sellers (coders) where people can find jobs if they work as a freelancer. There are also plenty of other ways to seek out work. One such place are forums, copywriting forums or general webmaster forumswhere people look out for content writers, for example. The pay by getting work in forums is not always great, but can definately be a good place to start out, sort of like a launch pad. It can be useful for building your reputation and getting yourself known. If you are content writer, one of the best ways to get a lot of repeat work is by seeking out permanent posts as content writers for major websites. The pay can vary greatly depending on the length and amount of reasearch time taken to produce high quality material.

Bidding

Write coherently and in goof English. User capital letters at the beginnings of sentences and proper grammar and punctuation. This is business, not a chat room or an IM session. Have form letters of different types that you can customize for each bid. Most bidding sites allow you to post a resume. Do so, and keep it honest and up to date. Typically bid periods expire on a certain date, after which the buyer selects one bidder for the project. This bidder, if he sees that the bid period has expired and has not been awarded yet, sends a follow up note to the buyer expressing interest in whether or not I am still in the running. I do this regularly and it impresses the buyer and sometimes results in winning the project.

Own Web Site

Many freelancers who are full time at it have their own web sites with samples of their past work and testimonials from satisfied customers or clients as we prefer to call them. It establishes you as having more credibility and being a real business instead of some part timer or student trying to make a few extra bucks on the side.

Have business cards printed and go to trade shows and make yourself known. Advertise your services in local news publications and free circulars if the nature of your business is aimed at the general consumer.

Sites to Visit

A quick Google search on freelancers got us some of these:

There are two kinds of document coders, medical and legal. This article focuses on the medical side. Many companies employ work at home medical coders. You should know your way around a computer and be able to focus on detailed documents for long periods of time. Just the ability to read and comprehend and transcribe documents that you see on a computer monitor and enter information from them into appropriate fields on online forms so they can be stored in a database, so you have to have some typing skills as well, and a bit of computer savvy. You should also be a fast reader and have a knowledge of medical billing codes in general, which requires training and education.

Educational Requirements

Courses of 4 months to 2 years are required to become a medical coder. Obviously, the more education you have, the better the chances of getting a job. A two year associate degree in medical coding can be a great advantage to you in obtaining a job in this field.

Salary

In 2004, the median salary for a medical coder was $25590, according to the US Department of labor.

Hospitals often demand better coding skills and a certification. Hospitals also often offer better benefits than a small doctor’s practice or clinic. Overtime pay is also more likely in a hospital. You may also have your eyes set on becoming a Medical Records Director or Hospital Administrator, and your start towards this supplemented by continuing education could lead to a better salary.

Work Schedule

If you are working from home, obviously the hours can be flexible, and just think of the commuting time saved. It can be a great job for a stay at home spouse with an infant to look after. You may even try to make a deal with the company you are coding for to work extra long hours if you are cash strapped and need the extra money. Working from home has never been easier. In a doctor’s office or clinic, typical day hours are followed. Hospitals also employ medical coders and are 24 by 7 operations and offer flexible schedules as a result with shift work.

Also employing medical coders besides doctor, clinics and hospitals are healthcare agencies, insurance companies , law firms, medical billing & coding service providers, nursing homes, and physician groups.

Getting Started

Talk to your guidance counselor if you are still in high school. There are many on line courses you can take as well as classroom settings for education in this career. There are online based companies you can contact and apply for work as a legal document coder. Bring your resume up to date and write a one page cover letter and apply by email. You should have the ability to work with little supervision. Medical coding/billing jobs are expected to grow through the end of this decade. A medical coder works to categorize with standard codes diseases, conditions, procedures or treatments provided by health care practitioners. This code is then used for the insurance company or Medicare, to assist in making payment to the practitioner or hospital. Medical coders may work in hospitals, a clinic or doctor’s office, and also electronically file insurance claims. Medical coders may also deal with insurance companies, and deal with patient’s inquiries about claims. You should be a detail oriented person, as correct codings for medical conditions is vital to records and insurance purposes.

Job Role

Legal document coders can expect to have to read and transcribe specific document information and understand legal terminology and documentation and key information into a computer system so good reading and typing skills and accuracy are necessary. Sometimes only specific information is needed to be recorded from documents, other times the full text of all a document’s content. It can be tedious and tiring work, requiring you to sit for long periods of time while transcribing a document. If you are a fidgety person who likes to be on the move all the time, perhaps it is not for you.

Requirements

There are two kinds of document coders, medical and legal. This article focuses on the legal side. Many litigation support companies employ work at home coders. No degree is needed, just the ability to read and comprehend and transcribe documents that you see on a computer monitor and enter information from them into appropriate field on online forms so they can be stored in a database, so you have to have some typing skills as well, and a bit of computer savvy.
Training is either provided by the company you are working for or you can take a course on your own.

Educational Requirements

No degree is needed, and in fact no specific formal education at all is legally required to be a legal document coder. Again, just to know your way around a computer enough and to be able to accurately read documents and transcribe information from them and enter data into appropriate fields in forms to go into a database.

Salary

A legal document coder in El Paso, TX makes about $23K a year, Toledo, OH, $27K, Punxsutawney, PA, home of the groundhog, also $27K. In NYC, $34K. Los Angeles, $32K, Chicago, also $32K, Philadelphia, $37K and Washington, DC $39K. So there is a considerable variance between large and small markets, but you must take into consideration the difference in the cost of living.

Work Schedule

If you are working from home, obviously the hours can be flexible, and just think of the commuting time saved. It can be a great job for a stay at home spouse with an infant to look after.

Step 2:

If your PC does not have a built-in wi-fi support. You will need to use a PCI Card to recieve signals from the router. If you do not have a PCI Slot, you can install an add-on card in your PC to enable wi-fi support.

Step 3:

Install the router. Plug in your internet cable and switch on the router. You will need a LAN cable connecting your PC and router to configure your router for first time. You can ask your ISP to configure it for you because there can be many internet specific settings involved.

Step 4:

Once the router is configured, You can detect the wireless network connection on your PC, then you can connect to it and use the internet through Wi-Fi.

Step 5:

If you wish to connect other devices to the wireless network, they have to wireless enabled, if not, you can purchase wireless adapters for a laptop, for example. Any wireless device should automatically connect to the wireless network by detecting the signals from the router.

You may feel the need to remove programs stored on your hard drive of your Windows system because they are either no longer required or it may be the case that a particular program(s) having a drain on the memory resources of the computer and thus slowing down the running of applications. Anyway, here is a simple step-by-step- guide on how you can uninstall programs and remove them alltogether from the hard drive. Be careful however that you do not remove any programs that may be required for running another program/application. You may or may not be prompted by a warning indicating this.

Step 1:

Go to Start Menu > Control Panel

Step 2:

Inside control panel, select ‘uninstall a program’ under ‘programs’.

Step 3:

It will generate a list of your install applications. You can select any application you want to remove and then press ‘uninstall/change’.

Step 4:

You will be asked for confirmation after which the application would be installed.

Firefox is an increasingly popular Internet browser that is gaining market share from Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. When you start using a new browser you may wish to import the bookmarks that you had saved on internet Explorer into Firefox rather than visiting all the sites again and bookmarking them all over again one at a time.
