How to Connect to Your PC Remotely

Sometimes when you are on your work PC you wish you could have access to your home PC to get aaccess to some important files. Perhaps you don’t know, but your Home Windows XP comes with a nice bunch of utilities which lets you do this easily. It’s called Remote Desktop Connection. Once you have configured it properly you can have full access to your PC from anywhere. The required steps are as follows,

Step 1:

First of all, you must create a “User” account on the system which you are going to access remotely. It must be associated with a strong password.

Step 2:

After having created the “User” account, go to the “control Panel” and click on the “Performance and Maintenance” button as shown in the screenshot.

Step 3:

Next on the window click on “System” option and following window will open up. As you can see on the top Menu bar one tab is there named “Remote”, click on it.

Step 4:

There under “Remote Desktop” one option will be there “Allow users to connect remotely to this computer”. Check it in as shown in the following screenshot,

Step 5:

Now that you have configured your System to be accessible remotely, you need to know how to connect to it. First, log on to the other Remote computer. On the “Start” menu go for “All Programs” -> “Accessories” -> “Communication” -> “Remote Desktop Connection”. The following window will pop up,

Type in the details of your computer and you will be logged in to it. You can simply work it as if you were logged on to you own system.

Remember to make it happen you need you home PC to have a unique IP Address. And it is always advisable to get a static IP to connect to it easily.
