How to Build a Home Wireless Network

Step 1:

Bring a wireless router which supports VPN (virtual private network). You can choose among many brands. D-Link, Linksys, Netgear, SMC & Trendnet are some of the popular brands.

Step 2:

If your PC does not have a built-in wi-fi support. You will need to use a PCI Card to recieve signals from the router. If you do not have a PCI Slot, you can install an add-on card in your PC to enable wi-fi support.

Step 3:

Install the router. Plug in your internet cable and switch on the router. You will need a LAN cable connecting your PC and router to configure your router for first time. You can ask your ISP to configure it for you because there can be many internet specific settings involved.

Step 4:

Once the router is configured, You can detect the wireless network connection on your PC, then you can connect to it and use the internet through Wi-Fi.

Step 5:

If you wish to connect other devices to the wireless network, they have to wireless enabled, if not, you can purchase wireless adapters for a laptop, for example. Any wireless device should automatically connect to the wireless network by detecting the signals from the router.
