How to resize an image in MS Paint

Every now and then we need to resize an image due to a number of reasons. A picture small in size loads faster. Now to do so, the required utility lies right there in your system, MS paint. It is free utility shipped with every version of Microsoft Windows having every function you may need to perform to a picture. So, here we will explore all the ways to resize an image with MS paint.

Step 1: Open Ms Paint

You can open MS Paint by clicking ‘Start’ -> ‘Programs’ -> ‘Accessories’’ ->’Paint’.

Or click ‘Start’ -> ‘Run’. When a small window pops up asking for a command type “MSPAINT” without quotes. Or you can simply use “Open With” on the picture you want to resize.

Step 2: Open the Picture in MS Paint

After opening MS Paint using any of the first two steps you need to open the picture in MS Paint

On the top toolbar on MS Paint, click “File” menu. And then click on open. Browse to the picture you want to resize and press ok.

· Or simply drag and drop the picture of your choice on to MS Paint.

Step 3: select the portion of the picture you want to resize

After you open the picture in MS Paint you have to select a part of the picture you want to be resized.

· If you want to resize the full picture then you certainly do not have to do any thing at this step. Move on to the next one.

· If you want only a part of the picture then select it with any one of the two options available in MS Paint on the left Toolbar.

Either, click on the “rectangular button which only says “Select” to select a rectangular portion from the picture.

Or to select a Curved portion from the picture click on the Star like button which says “Free Form Select”. Once you do so a pencil will appear using which you have to draw a closing area on the picture to be selected.

Step 4: resize the image

->Once you have selected the portion you want to resize, go as follows

Right Click on the selected portion and click on the option which says “Stretch/Skew”.

You can do the same by clicking ‘Image’ option on the top Menu Bar and then on “Stretch/Skew”.

· Or you can do it simply by pressing “W” pm you keyboard while keeping “Ctrl” key pressed.

->The following window will pop up in both of the above cases.

->Now we have to adjust the width and length attributes. You can see there are two boxes named “Stretch” and “Skew”. We need the first one only.

->there are two boxes named “Horizontal” and “Vertical”. They both represent length of the picture in the two specified directions. And a number “100” is mentioned on both boxes.

->if we want to increase the size of the picture in any direction, then we simply have to specify a number greater that “100”. And in case of decreasing the size decrease the number also. Normally it is advisable to keep both the numbers same to avoid ant distortion to the picture, as shown in the picture.

->once you are done with it, save the file in the desired format of yours.
