How to Format a Hard Drive

If your personal computer is affected by some hard to solve problems like storage issues or virus elimination then do not worry. Just format your computer hard drive, but remember formatting hard drive will remove all data stored on it. That’s why it is necessary to make sure that the backup of usefull data is made. The procedure of formattting the hard drive depends on whether you want to format the secondary hard drive or the primary hard drive and install Windows XP on it.

Formating a hard drive involves following steps:

Step 1:

Open “My Computer” and select the drive which you want to format.

Step 2:

You will get a pop up asking some options, just go for the default ones. Technically it will contain options related to “Capacity” of drive , “File system” type i.e. wether it is FAT 32 or NTFS, “Volume label” and “Format options” .

Step 3

If you want to do a quick format then select the “quick Format” option in the “Format option”,otherwise leave it as it is. Selecting this option will take less time to finish the task.

Step 4

Click on Start button. When you do so a warning box will appear informing you that all data will be erased due to formatting the disk.

Step 5:

After clicking “OK” wait for some times. Time taken will depend upon the processor speed and the disk size. When the formatting process is finished you will get a popup telling you “Format Complete”. Click on “Ok”.
