Becoming a qualified nurse in the States was a difficult journey for an UK nurse, regardless her high qualifications. She was considered one of the best nurses in Wales. Expanding her knowledge and qualifications continued with graduating a course that used guidelines from the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties.

After settling in US, in 1998, she began the process of obtaining the necessary qualifications for practicing as a nurse in one of the medical facilities in US. It took some time until she managed to obtain the transcripts from educational programs that no longer existed, but the aspiring US nurse was patient. Taking the CGNFS qualifying exam was easy, but the nest step was quite demanding. In 1999, she needed to take the national certification examination, which is regularly required for advanced practice.

Two years have passed until she went through the NP examination, based on intensive correspondence with the UK faculty and the certifying body. She was happy to receive approval to take the exam in 2001, but it took almost half a year until she received the results. Do not imagine that was the end of the road for our UK nurse: she had to apply for APN licensure in the state she had settled. Fierce determinations, intense dedication to nursing and excellent knowledge have brought her in 2002 the final licensure.
