Rachel Rees was working as a doula, assisting a birth, in 2006 when she realized she wanted to become a midwife. It was the moment when she started asking herself what her true calling is. Cutting the umbilical cord of the baby and helping the fresh mother to feed her new born for the first time was revelatory for Rachel. Suddenly, she felt an urge of becoming more than a doula, she wanted to become a midwife and help mothers deliver their small wonders in this world.
Full of excitement, Rachel applied to the UBC program in 2003, but the lack of experience has brought her a crushing rejection. This was not something that could determine Rachel give up, no way. Ever since, she attended over 80 births and gained extensive knowledge in natural birth, cesareans and labours. When she was confident enough, she applied again for a midwifery program. Rachel is still a freshman in the midwifery program and waits to assimilate all the knowledge that will allow perform the best miracle ever: the birth.
