How to Become a Commercial Pilot – Real Example

John Gemmelli, a commercial pilot from Chelmsford, Massachusetts, remembers what drove him into becoming a pilot: the precision and beauty of the US Air Force Thunderbirds. Unfortunately, his vision was not perfect and he saw his chances of working in aviation slowly disappearing.

At 27, prompted by his wife, John tried for the fist time an introductory flight. It all came naturally, and after seven months, he earned his private pilot certificate. It wasn’t the end of the road for John, who opted for an accelerated career program, gaining more experience and flight hours each year. May 2007 brought him a great work opportunity, when the American Eagle Airlines hired him with the promise of a Boston base, close to the family. He still recalls the feeling he had when he saw all his youth dreams come true. Being a commercial pilot is not easy, considering the fact that you’re not always with the family, but when you were born to fly, it is the only thing that fulfills you.
